What causes our Faces to Look Older?
As we all age, certain changes occur in the face as a result of aging. Usually, in our mid-thirties, we notice these changes first showing up on our faces. We lose fat, bone, and collagen all of which give us a youthful appearance. The skin loses its elasticity and underlining fat, along with the bones becoming thinner, all of which cause loss of facial volume and sagging skin. Facial lines and hollows which can make us look older and less vibrant are thus created.
What can Dermal Fillers do?
Dermal fillers are injected into areas where volume has been lost and can be used to essentially recontour the tissues and restore a more youthful appearance of the skin. In many instances, dermal fillers can be used to erase or decrease facial lines or wrinkles. They create a rejuvenated and revitalized appearance while adding moisture and stimulating ..college production. What are Dermal Fillers made of?
Most Dermal fillers are made from something that our bodies produce naturally that gives us fresh, youthful looking skin. That natural product is hyaluronic acid, which is produced in abundance in our youth – but diminishes as we age. Dermal fillers such as Juvéderm and Restylane are hyaluronic acid-based gels that are non-allergenic and are eventually broken down and absorbed by your body. These gels are designed to target specific areas of the face or body for specific cosmetic purposes. Dermal fillers are non-invasive injectables that can create a younger, lifted rejuvenated appearance.
We also use Radiesse for select individuals, which is composed of Calcium-based CaHa Calcium microspheres suspended in an aqueous resorbable gel. This is a much thicker filler and is used less often than hyaluronic acid fillers.
How Is the Procedure Performed?
Dermal-filler treatments are performed in the office and are quick and convenient. Topical numbing cream is often initially applied, to minimize any discomfort. The skin is then cleansed, and a small needle or cannula is used to inject the dermal filler. The fillers are skillfully and artistically injected by our highly trained staff of nurses Diane, Darleen, and Christine.

Is This Treatment Painful?
To minimize any discomfort during treatment, a topical anesthetic is often initially applied to the skin. This will numb the area before the injections are performed. In addition, all of the fillers we use contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic, which further helps to numb the treatment zone. When we use cannulas pain and bruising can also be minimized as well. We also help you by using breathing and relaxation techniques as well as cool packs applied to your skin.

What to Expect After Treatment
You may have some swelling and possible bruising after a dermal filler injection treatment. Usually, this resolves in several days and concealer may be used if necessary. Some people can bruise for a longer period of time so please do not get treated if you are planning an event within 2-3 weeks following your treatment to allow time for healing.
Guidelines for post-treatment care:
- For best results, do not touch, rub, or manipulate the treated area for 6 hours after the injection.
- Avoid vigorous activity or exercise for several days.
- Avoid facial or chemical peel for 14 days.
- Apply sunscreen daily and avoid direct sun or heat.
- Do not take NSAIDS 2 weeks prior to treatment and 5 days after to decrease the incidence of bruising.
- Avoid Alcoholic beverages
How Dermal Fillers differ from Botox®/Dysport®/Jeuveau®? The“Neuromodulators”
Although both fillers and Neuromodulators can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, they go about it in different ways. Fillers add volume to an area that can tighten the skin above, reducing or softening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. NM’s work differently, not by adding volume, but by relaxing the surface muscles below the skin. This inhibits wrinkles and lines from showing or forming when you talk or move your face in the areas treated with Neuromodulators. The results from fillers are also visible directly after treatment, while skin rejuvenation with Neuromodulators requires several days and up to 2 weeks to achieve the smoothing effect.
